Update
Wow! I have a LiveJournal?
Yes, it’s been ages, and many things have changed.
- I finished the leaving cert. The only thing’s I’ll say are, A2 in honours English, didn’t fail anything and thank god it’s over. - I got into Maynooth. It is a really great university. I’m doing computer science and software engineering. I’m really involved in the students union, I’m a class rep and on a committee. I am webmaster for the science fiction society, and an administrator for the computer society. I’m also starting a Harry Potter society. And then they go and give us assignments! What’s with that?
I have exams in one week, so I’ve a load of studying to do. I might blog sooner than last time, not sure though. Check out declan06.blogspot.com for more regular updates.

Summer
Hi everyone
I have spent the last three weeks on a theoretical physics course in DCU. It was run by the centre for talented youth of Ireland, CTYI. It was a great three weeks. I learnt loads and had lots of fun. I designed my own fractal, which is a shape that is between two and three dimensions. It has an infinite perimeter, but can be enclosed by a finite circle. Pictures will be uploaded soon.
I also did a PowerPoint presentation on black holes. They are really interesting. They are when stars that are over three times the size of our sun run out of hydrogen. I’m watching phantom of the opera. I am also using mIRC and MSN. Anyway, when the star runs out of hydrogen all the matter is sucked into a single point called the singularity. The gravitational effect of the singularity is called the event horizon and is a sphere around it. If anything goes into this sphere it is sucked in. This is why black holes get their name, as the event horizon even sucks in light The main way of discovering black holes is by seeing that a star is orbiting nothing. Another way is to see an accretion disk. This is a disk that goes around the black hole and consists of dust and other matter.
